Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. She is also the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in the United American. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and she was a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. She was a senator , and campaigned for reforms to healthcare and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for the possibility of citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered the attention of the nation, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
